Important Information Regarding Theme Installation On Camino 2.0
Posted: 24/11/2009
Camino 2.0 is out now, so here is some important information regarding theme installation.
UnifyCamino is discontinued
Feel free to try it out if you can get your hands on it, but no support is offered by us or the developer.
CaminIcon is outdated and should probably not be used
Camino 2.0 has some new resources. CaminIcon and its default Camino icons—which are used as a template when installing any theme—have not yet been updated (to my knowledge) to reflect these changes. Theme installations may therefore end up installing old resources in your Camino.
The best way to install themes right now with Camino 2.0 is manually
To install themes manually, you should do the following:
1) Make sure your theme’s icons have the correct file names and extensions by using Camino Theme Renamer.
2) Right-click (or Control-click) on Camino, Show Package Contents, navigate to Contents/Resources.
3) Put the files from your desired theme into the Resources directory, replacing all of the existing ones.
4) To revert to the default theme, you can make a backup of the default Resources and put them back in when you want to revert (Note: You should not use older resources on a newer build, as there may be changes). However, it might be easier to simply reinstall Camino with a fresh set of the default resources.
5) Note 1: While regular button icons (e.g. Back, Forward, etc) should still work fine after using Camino Theme Renamer, tab themes probably will not. This is because Camino’s tab height was increased by 2 pixels, but the tab themes have not yet been updated. Please see this page for more information.
6) Note 2: You may also notice that folders (e.g. bookmark folders) can no longer be changed. This is because Camino now draws all instances of the folder icon directly from the OS. Please see this page for more information.
